The full value of any workout lies in its connection to the previous one, and how effectively it prepares us for the next. With this perspective, we should see each workout as a progressive investment.

 

As we increase challenges in our training, it's crucial to remember that our bodies operate within pre-set parameters, and the various tissues placed under stress all have different rates of recovery/adaptation. For this reason, we must be smart in the increments of, and rate of progression.

 

This framework for viewing exercise allows us to move beyond a simplistic "just do it" mindset. Every exercise challenge should be carefully selected to logically follow and precede other strategically appropriate and well-controlled exercises.
